Dar es Salaam is the country's richest city and a regionally important economic centre. About one half of Tanzania's manufacturing employment is located in the city despite the fact that Dar holds only ten percent of Tanzania's population.
The overall cost of living rank in Kampala is 296 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with low cost of living locations. An expatriate moving from Dar es Salaam to Kampala will experience a change in cost of living of -26.6%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Kampala is ranked as a high degree of hardship location with a hardship index of 30% the same as Dar es Salaam.
