Moving to Ankara

Today we look at moving to Ankara in Turkey from Zurich in Switzerland. We highlight cost of living and other major differences likely to be experienced in our series of short blogs on moving between different international locations.
In Ankara people speak Turkish. In Zurich people speak German, French, Italian and Romansch.

Ankara is the capital of Turkey and the country's second largest city after Istanbul. Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zürich. Ankara is a very old city with various Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman archaeological sites. Zurich is Switzerland's main commercial and cultural centre.

The overall cost of living rank in Ankara is 151 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with middle cost of living locations.  An expatriate moving from Zurich to Ankara will experience a change in cost of living of -40.2%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Ankara is ranked as a high degree of hardship location with a hardship index of 30% compared to Zurich with a hardship index of 10% which is a minimal hardship location.
