Moving to Munich

Today we look at moving to Munich in Germany from Paris in France. We highlight cost of living and other major differences likely to be experienced in our series of short blogs on moving between different international locations.
In Munich people speak German. In Paris people speak French.

Munich is the capital city of Bavaria and is the third largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg. Paris is the capital of France and the country's most populous city.
Munich has the strongest economy of any German city, as well as the lowest unemployment rate of any German city with more than a million people. The city is also the economic centre of southern Germany. The diverse economy of Paris is essentially a service economy, with business and financial services generating nearly half of the Paris Region's GDP.

The overall cost of living rank in Munich is 31 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with high cost of living locations.  An expatriate moving from Paris to Munich will experience a change in cost of living of -4.2%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Munich is ranked as a minimal hardship location with a hardship index of 10% the same as Paris.
