Assignment in San Jose

Today I would like to discuss San Jose in Costa Rica. If you were to be sent to San Jose on an expatriate assignment or if you were to relocate there, you are likely to experience weather that is tropical and subtropical with a dry season (December to April) and a rainy season (May to November); cooler in highlands. You will meet people who speak Spanish (official) and English.

The cost of clothing, food and beverages and housing is average. The cost of transport is low. San Jose is the capital and largest city of Costa Rica. San Jose is the seat of national government, the focal point of political and economic activity, and the major transportation hub of Costa Rica.

From a day to day comfort perspective, you are likely to experience a high degree of hardship. Be sure to negotiate an appropriate salary or allowance to compensate for the cost of living. If you live in San Jose or if you lived there recently, let us know what your experience has been. Would you live in San Jose again?
