Assignment in Beijing

Today I would like to discuss Beijing in China. If you were to be sent to Beijing on an expatriate assignment or if you were to relocate there, you will meet people who speak Mandarin Chinese.

The cost of clothing and housing is very high. The cost of food and beverages is high. The cost of transport is low. Beijing is a metropolis in northern China and the capital of the People's Republic of China. Beijing is amongst the most developed cities in China with tertiary industry accounting for 73.2% of its GDP. Finance is one of the most important industries of Beijing. Beijing is home to 26 Fortune Global 500 companies, the third most in the world behind Tokyo and Paris.

From a day to day comfort perspective, you are likely to experience a high degree of hardship. Be sure to negotiate an appropriate salary or allowance to compensate for the cost of living. If you live in Beijing or if you lived there recently, let us know what your experience has been. Would you live in Beijing again?
