Moving to Dublin

Today we look at moving to Dublin in Ireland from Budapest in Hungary. We highlight cost of living and other major differences likely to be experienced in our series of short blogs on moving between different international locations.
In Dublin people speak English and Irish. In Budapest people speak Hungarian.

Dublin is the largest city and capital of Ireland. Budapest is the capital of Hungary.
The Economy of Dublin is centralised in the capital city of Ireland. As such, Dublin is the largest city and the country's main economic hub. Most government agencies and the machinery of government including the parliament are based there. Dublin is the focal point of Irish media and culture, the countries transportation networks are centred upon the city. As the largest city of Hungary, Budapest serves as the country's principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial, and transportation center and is considered an important hub in Central Europe.

The overall cost of living rank in Dublin is 73 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with high cost of living locations.  An expatriate moving from Budapest to Dublin will experience a change in cost of living of 3.3%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Dublin is ranked as a minimal hardship location with a hardship index of 10% compared to Budapest with a hardship index of 20% which is a some hardship location.
