Moving to Budapest

Today we look at moving to Budapest in Hungary from Nuuk in Greenland. We highlight cost of living and other major differences likely to be experienced in our series of short blogs on moving between different international locations.
In Budapest people speak Hungarian. In Nuuk people speak Greenlandic and Danish.

Budapest is the capital of Hungary. Nuuk is the capital and largest city of Greenland.
As the largest city of Hungary, Budapest serves as the country's principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial, and transportation center and is considered an important hub in Central Europe. Nuuk is one of the smallest capital cities in the world by population.

The overall cost of living rank in Budapest is 87 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with high cost of living locations.  An expatriate moving from Nuuk to Budapest will experience a change in cost of living of 3.3%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Budapest is ranked as a some hardship location with a hardship index of 20% compared to Nuuk with a hardship index of 30% which is a high degree of hardship location.

Like most Eastern European economies, the economy of Hungary experienced market liberalisation in the early 1990s as part of the transition from socialist economy to market economy.
